SOS Online Backup Review

Overview

SOS Online Backup is no ordinary online backup solution. Alongside features offered by other cloud backups, it also frequently updates, and adds new features. In fact, the latest edition,  SOS Online Backup 5.0, offers improved Android and iPhone apps, Facebook backup, Mac support, and a smooth-as-silk PC set-up.

Previously, pricing was an issue with SOS, but that is no longer the case; it now offers 100GB, covering two computers, for just under $75 a year, based on a two-year subscription plan.

Also available is the 50GB plan, for $9.95 per month, which covers five PCs. This is even better than the famous Carbonite plan that charges a low $4.50 per month, but for one PC only.

SOS Online Backup’s Home Edition is by far its most popular choice, due, in no small part, to its friendly interface.

Installation and Processing

SOS Online Backup was already boasting a super-fast installation, but now it’s even better; it literally takes just a few moments to save your data in the cloud. The ‘Ultra-Save’ feature also provides more security to your precious data, which means that no-one but you will have access to it – and when we say ‘no-one’, that includes SOS staff, too. That must be one of its best features, and will give users an extra layer of confidence in this particular system.

Of course, you need to take care when you have chosen this extra security option; your data will be password-protected, so you will need to keep your password safe. If you forget it, things may go wrong. The best advice we can give is that you treat your SOS Online Backup system as if it was a treasure box with just one key, for which you are solely responsible, so it’s of paramount importance to keep that password somewhere safe.

During the second phase of processing, the backup service scans your PC for potential files, typically music, documents, and pictures, to backup. You can set this to auto-pilot or choose to do it manually, which is great because it allows you to be lenient with it all, or a complete control freak while uploading files. The choice is yours.

If you have trouble following the instructions for installing SOS Online Backup, there is a step-by-step installation guide, available with whichever subscription you take out.

SOS Online Backup is user friendly in the truest sense. You don’t even have to be logged in to send your files to backup cloud. It’s so easy to use that you can select the upload schedule to operate hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly, and have the activity report mailed to your inbox upon completion, so you will always be completely up to date with your system.

You can monitor the backup-processing from various aspects; you have the power to pause or cancel it, and you can also spot which files are being uploaded. The uploading is encrypted, processed, and sent in 5MB blotches.

When you run the installation, you’ll find that the most common folders, like My Documents, My Pictures, and so on, are suggested for uploading. You can manage it all very easily and efficiently. Unlike Carbonite, you also have the option to send external USBs, keys, and even network drives, for backup; this is a really useful feature that many users will appreciate.

Once your backup is up and running, everything from that point onwards is as easy as ABC, and you can choose to stay with the default backup, or move to a local one, whichever option best suits your particular needs.

Save Souls of your Data with SOS

SOS offers reasonably-priced payment options, tuition, and a friendly interface. If you use just one PC, you may well be better off with an alternative online solution such as Carbonite, but you will certainly miss a lot of the useful features (that update continuously), of SOS Online Backup.  Try SOS; we recommend it with confidence!
